Just wanted to give a quick update on publishing The Engineer's Craft.
Shortly after I finished writing the book, I sent it out to a few agents between November and February. My first drafts are fairly polished narrative-wise (I mostly work on theme and character on revisions) and so I did this just to see if I could get any bites while I began the revision process. I got one positive response (a full-manuscript request) from a somewhat reputable agency, but it didn't pan out. I decided to stop sending it out once I received enough feedback from my beta readers early in 2024.
I sat on my beta readers' feedback for a bit (I find that it takes me about 6 months after I've finished a book to really get excited for the editing process) and in the second half of this year have begun editing in serious. I've set the goal to finish the edits by end-of-year 2024, send it out again to a smaller batch beta-readers, then begin pitching to agents again in January 2025. In my initial round of querying, I pitched to a few agents I'm highly interested in but also saved a few of those high-priority pitches for after the revision.
We'll see where things go!
I'll update again once I've begun pitching to agents and publishers.
