After I finish writing a book, I always need a few weeks away from words before I edit.
To fill that time, I decided to take what I learned during my time at Inscape to create a print-edition of the rough draft of The Engineer's Craft that I could lend readers to get their first impressions of the book. I tend to edit as I go and spend a lot of time on my first drafts, so they're usually readable by the time I write the last sentence, even if they still need a lot of work. I try to get around 50 people to read the book as I'm editing, just so I can see what's working and what needs a little extra love.
Anyway, I finally got the print/formatted versions of my book and was super happy with the results! I used Lulu.com to print the physical copies, which were actually a lot cheaper than I expected.
I didn't have access to InDesign or any of the fancy software for cover or interior design, so I did all of this using Microsoft Word. Definitely wouldn't recommend doing that, but if you're on a budget and want to print out physical copies of something you've written...it can be done.
